This project has been developed with a market leader supplying industrial printers for packaging foil.
Our partner asked for customized packaging for the housings of his machine, which is also manufactured and supplied by Addit, and he came to us for engineering and setting up the supply chain.
The elements of the housing needed to be packed in the reverse order of the assembly, which was a real challenge during the design phase, as the housing consists of more than 200 spatialparts.
All parts had to be placed on five pallets and in a crate. The dimensions of the package must not exceed the dimensions of the overseas container.
The packaging had to be prepared for road and oversee transportation, it needed to be robust but light at the same time, it had to account for packaging of every element into multiple layers of VCI foil, calculating proper number of moisture absorbers, using certified and approved types of wood and materials for oversee transportation.
The packaging itself, orientation and positioning of the parts had to be user friendly and allow for easy access of the parts and safe removal of the parts from the pallets.
The customer needed whole documentation for the packaging including assembly instructions for the housing itself.

The design of the oversea packaging had to fulfill numerous requirements, among others:
- Weight of the packaging set
- Number of elements
- Dimensions not exceeding the oversea container
- Certified and approved materials
- Oversea transportation – protection against rust
- Robust construction not to damage painted parts in transportation over long distances
- Reverse order of assembly
Scope of the project
By the design of the packaging, Addit was responsible for:
- Engineering all the elements of the packaging
- Planning the right order, positioning and orientation of the parts on the pallets and inside the wooden box
- FEM calculations
- Preparation of the complete documentation, including assembly instructions for the housing
- Setting up the supply chain
