At Addit, CNC machining is an integral part of the manufacturing process for precision components, structural frames, specialized enclosures, and complete modules. We use CNC turning and milling both for the production of standalone parts and for machining functional surfaces, mounting interfaces, precision holes, and threads in components previously manufactured through laser cutting, bending, or welding.
Our in-house machining capabilities enable us to carry out the entire manufacturing process within a single production environment. For our customers, this means shorter and more predictable lead times, greater flexibility when implementing engineering changes, and enhanced quality assurance.
CNC Machining as an Extension of Precision Sheet Metal Manufacturing
We apply CNC machining wherever laser cutting, punching, bending, or welding alone cannot achieve the required accuracy of functional surfaces. Milling and turning enable the production of precision mounting interfaces, tolerance-controlled holes, threads, counterbores, and functional surfaces cooperating with other machine components.
This is particularly important for frames, welded structures, enclosures, and integrated modules, where the final geometry results from combining multiple manufacturing processes. Machining at the appropriate production stage ensures the correct position of critical surfaces and holes relative to the complete assembly, simplifying subsequent assembly operations and eliminating the need for manual fitting.
By combining CNC machining with our other manufacturing technologies, Addit evaluates every component within the context of the complete product. This approach allows us to machine only those features that truly require high precision, while producing all other features during laser cutting or punching. The result is shorter machining time, fewer manufacturing operations, and a more competitive total manufacturing cost.
CNC Turning and Milling Capabilities
We provide CNC turning and milling services for prototype, low-volume, and serial production. Our machining department is equipped with DMG MORI turning and milling centers.
Our capabilities include:
- CNC turning of components up to 300 mm in diameter and 800 mm in length
- CNC milling within a machining envelope of 1100 × 600 × 500 mm
- machining of precision tolerance-controlled holes
- machining of deep threaded holes
- milling of reference and functional surfaces
- machining of precision counterbores in flat components
- machining of sheet metal parts, tubes, profiles, and welded structures
- engraving of identification markings
- manufacturing of dedicated production tooling and fixtures
Machining of Thin and Flat Components
Thin sheet metal parts and flat components require specialized workholding methods because machining forces may cause deformation. For these applications, we use dedicated fixtures, including vacuum clamping systems that provide uniform support across the entire component during machining.
This solution allows us to machine precision counterbores, holes, and functional surfaces while maintaining the required flatness of the component.
Process Development in a CAD/CAM Environment
Machining programs are developed using Siemens NX and Creo CAD/CAM systems. Working directly with 3D models improves geometry analysis, toolpath generation, and verification of machining sequences.
During process planning, we consider:
- workpiece clamping strategy
- tool accessibility to machined surfaces
- component rigidity and deformation risk
- number of required setups
- feasibility of machining and inspecting specified tolerances
- integration of machining with preceding and subsequent manufacturing operations
This approach allows potential manufacturing risks to be identified before production begins.
Prototypes, Low-Volume Production, and Manufacturing Preparation
We support projects ranging from single prototypes to low-volume production batches. Prototype manufacturing allows verification of design feasibility, assembly fit, and tolerance assumptions before approving the design for serial production.
The results of initial production runs are used to optimize manufacturing technologies, tooling, CAM programs, and inspection methods. This minimizes the risk of costly modifications after production launch and shortens the time required to stabilize the manufacturing process.
Our in-house CNC machining capabilities also enable rapid implementation of engineering changes and successive product iterations without involving additional suppliers.
Quality Control Integrated with the Machining Process
Quality assurance is planned simultaneously with manufacturing process development. We define critical functional characteristics, measurement datums, and inspection methods required to verify compliance with technical documentation.
Addit’s metrology capabilities include 2D measurement systems, coordinate measuring machines (CMMs), and 3D optical scanning systems.
Our largest CMM offers a measuring volume of 4000 × 1600 × 1500 mm and is equipped with a Renishaw PH20 measuring head.
The Creaform MetraSCAN system enables inspection of large components and complete structures within a measuring volume of up to 3000 × 3000 × 6000 mm.
By combining manufacturing and metrology within one facility, we can identify deviations more quickly and implement corrective actions immediately. For our customers, this means lower risk of non-conforming components reaching assembly, greater consistency between production batches, and assurance that critical part characteristics will function correctly within the final product.
CNC Machining within the One-Stop-Shop Manufacturing Model
CNC machining is an essential extension of Addit’s precision sheet metal fabrication and contract manufacturing capabilities. We combine machining with laser cutting of sheet metal, tubes, and profiles, bending, welding, grinding, surface finishing, assembly, and testing.
This integrated approach reduces the number of suppliers involved in a project while ensuring full consistency across every stage of manufacturing. Customers do not need to coordinate separate suppliers for semi-finished products, CNC machining, inspection, and assembly. Instead, they work with one partner responsible for both component quality and its proper performance within the final assembly.
Experience Across Demanding Industries
We continue to expand our CNC machining expertise through cooperation with multiple customers around the world. We manufacture components for the railway, defense, medical and pharmaceutical, food processing, printing, and industrial machinery sectors.
The diversity of these projects enables us to consider not only the geometry of each component but also its function, operating environment, quality requirements, and integration into the complete product. For our customers, this means working with an engineering team that evaluates every component not only from the perspective of CNC machining, but also within the context of the complete module and its long-term operational performance.
